MixTape Monday and…Ethan Hawke?

Before you think I have some kind of teen angsty crush on Ethan Hawke (I don’t), let me explain. Last week I had an epiphany (well, realization but epiphany sounds more dramatic, don’t you think?)…I realized I have a thing for Ethan Hawke. Ok, more specifically his movies.
I like to watch/listen to movies while I edit photos. Usually they’re movies I’ve watched many times so I can just have it play on my laptop and not pay attention to the story. One of the movies I watched last week was Reality Bites. You’ve seen it, right? Man, do I love that movie. It’s been many years since I watched it and it’s still so good and the dialogue…oh goodness, the dialogue (Hello, you’ve reached the winter of our discontent). So back to Ethan Hawke. While watching Reality Bites (did you know it was Ben Stiller’s directorial debut?), I realized a few of his films are some of my favorite, favorite movies. Like, movies I can watch all.the.time and do. Obvs, Reality Bites is one of ‘em. The others are Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Great Expectations (<— The scene when Gwyneth Paltrow (Estella) is wearing the sheer asymmetrical Donna Karan dress and she dances with Hawke (Finn) then they casually stroll out into the rain and kiss…LOVE). What? Of course I re-watched them all last week. I had to…er, in the name of research for the blog. ;)
So what’s the point of my Ethan Hawke rambling? Well, these movies also come with great soundtracks. Btw, Anyone else love soundtracks like I do? Done well, they’re like the perfect mixtape, right? Love soundtracks…
Oops, sorry…back to the topic.
So my point was that not only are these 4 films mostly excellent but so are their soundtracks. And since this is Monday and no Monday would be complete without a mixtape, here are my fave songs from my fave Ethan Hawke movies. My own Ethan Hawke soundtrack, if you will. ;)
P.S. The Reality Bites soundtrack was the first CD I ever owned. My first cassette tape was Madonna’s Like A Virgin. haha
P.P.S. I love Dead Poets Society, too, but it’s a sad movie and I try to avoid those unless I’m in the mood to spend some time with Mr. Kleenex.
Lisa Loeb – Stay (Reality Bites)
(Who else wanted cat eyeglasses like Lisa Loeb? Oh, and the video was directed by…yup, Ethan Hawke.)
U2 – All I Want Is You (Reality Bites)
Nina Simone – Just In Time (Before Sunset)
Chris Cornell – Sunshower (Great Expectations)
Pulp – Like A Friend (Great Expectations)
Scott Weiland – Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down (Great Expectations)
Fisher – Breakable (Great Expectations)
And let’s see what my friends are mixing up this week:
